My global volunteer experience was able to provide me with the opportunity to live the authentic life Vietnamese people. I was able to indulge in their food, clothing, language as well as their lifestyle which is really different from ours. During my stay in Vietnam, I was able to experience Vietnam’s Independence Day by learning its history from the teachers as well as eat moon cakes and enjoy the lion dance during the Mid Autumn Festival. Although in Vietnam, they call it unicorn dance instead of lion dance. My experience in this program has helped me to understand more about their culture through activities held with the kids and also the teachers who were happy enough to share their stories and culture with us.
I‘ve already aspired to go for GV and it was also the first touchpoint I had with AIESEC before I joined as a member. I'm very happy to see that GV is finally coming back after 3 years of pandemic. Coming from iGV background but having never run a GV project before, I'm looking forward to having both personal and professional growth after my realisation in Vietnam this August. From my personal perspective, I wish to get more cross-cultural understandings through this exchange, getting to know more about other places in the world and broadening my horizon, while from a professional perspective, I also wish to get practical learning experience on how the GV project operates and bring my knowledge back to my own LC.
