The story of AIESEC in Malaysia began when James Callaghan, the coordinator of AIESEC in the United States, visited Malaysia to share the idea of establishing AIESEC locally. His visit caught the attention of Mr. Yap Kun Tiat, who was then the President of the Universiti Malaya Economics Society (UMECS).

With this spark of interest, AIESEC was first formed as a subcommittee under UMECS before growing into an independent organization. Mr. Yap Kun Tiat became the first President of AIESEC in Universiti Malaya, marking the beginning of our journey.
